RESEARCH ASSISTANT (iPSC) (ND0004)
A Research Assistant position is available with a flexible start date for Winter 2021 within the Hong Kong Center for Neurodegeneration at Hong Kong Science Park. The individual will join a dedicated team that utilizes human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC)-derived systems to model Alzheimer’s disease. The Research Assistant will be trained to reprogram terminally differentiated cells into iPSCs, characterize iPSCs, differentiate neuronal and glial cells, and characterize the differentiated cells using cutting-edge technologies.
Tissue culture and quality control of iPSC and neuronal and glial differentiation
Running both differentiation and phenotyping assays, including but not limited to: immunocytochemistry, imaging, western blot, RT-qPCR
Creating quality assured banks of iPSC for use in a variety of projects
Documenting all work in a lab notebook
Lab maintenance, i.e. ordering supplies, general upkeep, etc.
Organizing and cryopreserving processed samples in liquid nitrogen tank.
Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Neurobiology or related field
Flexible working hours during weekdays AND weekends on rotating schedule
Experience with cell culture preferred; experience with iPSC is a plus
Past research experience in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, or neuroscience at the undergraduate level or beyond is preferred
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, team-oriented
Strong organizational, communication, and record-keeping skills
Salary and Benefits
A highly competitive salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience in addition to medical and dental benefits as well as annual leave. The appointment will be offered a two-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement and performance. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
