Research Assistant (Drug Discovery) (ND0051)
The Hong Kong Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (HKCeND) is an interdisciplinary research institute that aims to carry out cutting-edge high-impact molecular neuroscience, genetic and clinical research in characterizing the mechanistic underpinnings of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in the Chinese population. We are looking for highly motivated Research Assistant(s)/Associate(s) to join our Drug Discovery team. The candidate(s) will actively participate in and contribute to the research and development of novel strategies for drug discovery. The appointee will assist in the generation of reporter cell lines, and drug screening. Training will be provided as needed in laboratory techniques, which include cell culture, establishment of reporter cell lines and operating automatic liquid handlers. Duties & Responsibilities Small- and large-scale tissue culture. Perform various cell treatments and drug screening in cell lines. Generate reporter cell lines for drug screening. Perform phenotypic assays including western blotting, qRT-PCR, ELISA, immunostaining etc. Operate high-throughput automatic liquid handlers. We are looking for highly motivated Research Assistant(s) to join our Histology team. The candidate(s) will contribute to the collective efforts directed at the roles of biomarkers underlying the dysregulation of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), contributing to disease pathogenesis with stepwise histopathological progression. The recent projects are focused on human AD neuropathological hallmarks, microscopically hint on the intricate molecular interplay of signalling pathways through observations of neuropathological abnormalities from various brain banks’ post-mortem human brain samples. The ideal candidate(s) will gain exposure to hands-on translational research, with the primary focus on neuropathological alternations at the cutting-edge microscopic level. He/She will mainly be responsible to work with mouse whole/half-brain samples and the precious post-mortem human brain samples, through conducting immunostaining with a wide array of molecular markers, followed by 2D and/or 3D bioimage analysis, to examine microanatomical lesions to support research projects of relevance. The appointee will support various research projects by conducting computational analyses. Duties Collect, manage, and study biological data (microscopy images and/or NGS data), including the use of machine learning and statistical methods to analyse and interpret data for meaningful results. Implement and/or optimize existing analysis pipelines with inputs from biologists and deliver the insights of the data responsibly and timely.
